Apple Adds Cycling Routes & EV Charging Stations To Maps In New iOS Update

As a company that prides themselves on trying to help the planet, our employees cycle where possible and drive electric vehicles. We’re thrilled to hear that Apple will be updating its Maps feature in the latest update of iOS 14 to add cycling routes and car charging stations.

The new Apple Maps will keep track of what car is being driven and will know what kind of chargers to display to drivers enabling them to locate the nearest available EV chargers on their journey. The new Maps app will also integrate the knowledge of elevation and weather, both of which can affect the range of an EV car.

Google Maps has always offered cycling directions, but this feature isn’t without its flaws. It works great when there are well-known cycling routes in place; however, it has also been known to send people down some bustling streets, ones that are a lot less preferable to cycle down.

We like the new features outlined by Apple; with the latest installation being able to display where the nearest charging ports are for electric vehicles. We hope the changes will help to encourage more people to make the switch over to electric vehicles.
