Falling for Autumn: Leaf the Road Hassles Behind with These Driving Tips!
Halloween isn’t the only scary thing about Autumn, driving can be hair-raising too! Steer clear of any problems you may encounter on the road with our little list of Autumn Driving Tips.
Keeping Up with Your Car
Don’t get blindsided this Autumn. Keep up with your car to ensure you have the safest journey possible. Check for cuts and bulges around your tyres and ensure tyre pressure is to the correct psi. It is important that you check tread depth too. You may also want to consider wet weather or all-weather tyres.
Take No Chances With Your Windscreen
Remember to get any chips in your windscreen repaired before the bad weather comes. This damage can lead to cracks as the temperature drops. Also, ensure that your screenwash is good quality and topped up. And remember to check your wiper blades! They have a lifespan of around 2 years, so change if necessary. You don’t want a horrible streaky windscreen with no way to clean it off. Blind driving is never a good idea!
Is Your Car’s Battery More Than 5 Years Old?
Is your car struggling to start? A typical battery lasts around 5-7 years, so you should check if it needs replacing. Don’t leave it to the first frost to find out your battery isn’t up to the job. Take a look at Halfords’ tips on this here.
Finally, check the things you usually wouldn’t think about. Your headlights, the heater and the de-mister.
Driving Style
In Autumn, the low sun can lead to tailbacks and sudden braking. So leave plenty of space between other vehicles. Especially in wet, icy, and foggy conditions.
Leave a larger gap to lengthen your braking distance. Sudden or harsh breaking can cause skidding in poor weather conditions. It’s worth leaving the gap to lessen the risk of an accident.
Weather Tips
It’s always good practice to have some deicer and a scraper in your car. Also, remember that it will start to get darker earlier, so keep on top of your headlights! With the shorter days comes the low sun. And, as we’ve mentioned, make sure you keep your windscreen clean. Then, your vision is not blocked by the marks enhanced by the low sun.
