Earth Day Special: Why the Planet Doesn’t Care if you go Electric.
Right now, there is a climate emergency. You may not like it, but we’re destroying our home planet. You wouldn’t drop a bomb on your own house, so why are we ruining the planet we inhabit? Here’s where the real problem comes in though, the planet does not care if you go electric.
This is a bit of an odd comment from us. We’d normally be jeering you on to go electric and reap the benefits of car salary sacrifice. We need to remember something though, the planet is vast; vastly resilient, vastly old, and vastly resourceful. It’s dealt with extremes of heat, cold, toxic oceans, and pools of lava, and now provides us with the perfect living conditions. Saying that, if we continue to disrespect it, the fact still stands; the planet was around long before we got here and will be here long after we all croak it.
We do not own the planet…
Think of it this way, the planet is a big house rented by everyone on the planet, but the planet is also the landlord. Every little (or in fact large) mistake we make all bubbles up and frustrates our landlord. If we’re bad tenants, we’ll get the boot ASAP!
…But we are stuck here!
We merely have a shorthold tenancy. The mothership will sure be annoyed at the mess we’ve left when we’re gone, but we forget that it’ll quickly recover without us! That said, we’re not actually just renting out the planet month to month. If we’re evicted, we can’t just find somewhere else to set up shop! Mars travel isn’t quite commercial just yet…
What difference will going electric make?
As much as we want to keep Earth happy, so we don’t make even more irreparable damage, as we said, it won’t matter to the planet. It’ll recover after we’re gone. There are more reasons to be more sustainable, though! Do it for you, your kids, your kids’ kids, their kids after that, they’re the one’s that’ll pay for our selfishness! For those who don’t believe in all this “global warming” mumbo jumbo, the same applies to you! You don’t have to recycle or go electric or switch to LED bulbs for the environment or any other noble cause! Do it for those around you, those in generations to come!
We can make all the small changes we want, like going electric and going vegan, and sure, we’re helping out a bit. For real change, though, it’s a group effort! The big boys in their ivory towers have to play fair too! It’s all well and good polluting the planet to grow your enormous wealth, but what’s the plan when no one’s around to buy your cola or your cigarettes? It’s time for big companies, and even countries as a whole, to reduce their emissions and pollution, or even set targets to become carbon neutral! That’s a topic for another blog though.
