Electric Car Incentives: With Electric Cars, there is Such a Thing as a Free Lunch!

As the holiday season approaches, many hidden costs can make the season a bit pricey. That last-minute shopping trip may not just cost you your sanity, but parking can cost you a small fortune too! Stop off for a coffee, sandwich and cake for 2, and you won’t get much change from £20. Luckily, there are cost-aiding electric car incentives to help you through this time of need. So, against that backdrop, going electric may score you a free lunch, what a lovely surprise.

Let’s take some recent examples from the author. Before I got my I-PACE, I was sporting I had an Audi TT (before my kids’ legs grew, how selfish). I used to pay £8 for my commute, a 42-mile trip! On longer drives, I’d be spending around £30 to go 200 miles.

Compare that with the Electric Experience

My I-PACE covers 200+ miles on one charge. What’s more? There are loads of charge points across the UK, on every motorway and spread all over. Stopping for just an hour will give you up to 200 miles, depending on the speed of the charge point. The lower speed ones are normally free!

On Wednesday, I was in Birmingham for a meeting (and a cheeky trip to the German Market). I parked up at Moor Street Car Park with 60 miles. I had to pay for parking, as you would with a normal car, But, over a few hours, I charged to full, copping myself a whole 150 miles for free! It may have been slow, but hey, it’s free! That’s about £20 worth of free miles compared to petrol/diesel. This funded some Bratwursts, a non-alcoholic beer for me, and large Stein for my colleague.

Electric Car Incentives are Well Worth It…

Last week, I travelled further afield, doing 500 miles in 2 days. Tuesday evening, I recharged from no range to full range at a Toby Carvery. This one was chargeable, costing me £12 for 200 miles. I spent the 96 minutes it took enjoying a carvery and a couple of drinks, £13 in total. So that’s £25 for charging AND dinner, which would use £30 of fuel in a similar size traditional car.

On the way back, I decided to charge again. I pulled off the A1 to enjoy a meal at the lovely Tom Foolery restaurant at Boston Spa by Harrogate. I charged for free there, but at a 50kw fast charger, which gave me an extra 200 miles for free! The meal was £14, more than offset by the saving on fuel compared to petrol or diesel.

Unfortunately, I haven’t gone vegan yet. I can always choose a fish dish; just not sure I can manage the nut roast yet. Anyway, the message we’re pushing is that there is such a thing as a free lunch. For electric car users, at least. Don’t forget, our green car scheme makes EV’s cheaper to run than a traditional car, and cheaper to lease too!

So, electric car incentives: a free lunch. If that’s not enough to convert you, think about the financial and environmental incentives…

Isn’t it time you made the move to electric?
