Electric Cars: Trick or Treat?

Electric cars, are they a trick? Or are they the sweetest treat there is?

A few years ago, my daughter was inadvertently a trendsetter. She headed out for Halloween, chanting “trick or treat” at every door. Decked out a surgical mask and blood-soaked doctors’ coat. She was armed with a sweets bucket and her plastic cleaver. Naturally, the cleaver had been tested against her brother’s neck, that’s sibling love for you. Well, what do you know, we’re all sporting masks now! Well, optionally.

Will this Halloween be a nightmare?

Not for electric cars! Year on year, EV-uptake just grows and grows! Diesel sales are retreating faster than a vampire flees from sunrise, and with one heck of a lot less smoke! However, some are still more scared of electric cars than they are of the bogeyman! So, are the reasons for the fear any more genuine?

You’re stuck in a zombie apocalypse but you only have an electric car, what do you do?

What chance do you have? In the diesel world, you have at least a 400-mile range, whereas in the electric world, how far can you get before the zombies catch you?

Well, most of us base our expectations of electric cars on a time when the first “Saw” films appeared. Nowadays, most electric cars will cover 150-200 miles or more with relative ease. And many more EVs with an eve larger range than this! Enough to outrun a cluster of zombies, surely.

What about when you run out of juice?

In most horror films, petrol stations are bad-guy central. Your diesel car makes so much noise getting to the station, you could wake the dead! Also, with nobody to refill the tanks, eventually, they will run dry. It’s just a matter of time before our petrol stations become a ghost town and die out altogether. In fact, as an electric car driver, the scariest thing I ever see is a fuel receipt when I have to fill up a petrol car!

In an electric car, not only can you ghost through towns unheard, but any electric supply is your friend! Yes, a 3-in plug will involve you hiding out for a day or so, but where doesn’t have electricity? If you find an ultra-fast charge point on the motorways, you’re a lucky ghoul! You can get 200 miles in the time it takes you to stock your car full of Twinkies…

There are many things to be scared of this Halloween, electric cars aren’t one of them!
