Will you be Living in Electric Dreams by the End of 2022?

In 1985, Ronald Reagan won his second term, a great feat, another 4 years for him – something BoJo seems to be struggling with… Still, 1985 was famous for some other things, even more amazing than our party boy PM lasting another week! Anyway, moving swiftly on, I was recently revisiting my teenage record collection via Apple Music. It made me wonder how many of us would be living in electric dreams at the end of 2022? In 2021, more battery electric vehicles (BEV) were sold than in the last 5! And that’s with a whole lockdown thrown in at the start of it! There was a total of 190,727 EVs registered by the end of the year, and 114,554 plug-in hybrids too!

1985: A Busy Year.

You see 1985 wasn’t just the year we realised George Orwell had absolutely missed the mark, it was also the year the Titanic was discovered! Perhaps a little like discovering a car running on leaded fuel today! As well, in 1985 New York made seatbelts a legal requirement, and just 35 years on we are debating if drivers even need to drive at all!

Speaking of historical artefacts, Blockbuster was founded! I remember it well, walking to my local store to browse the VHS. Later, when I could drive, I rocked up in one of the most popular cars, the Metro. I had the MG version, which basically meant it just rusted away quicker. MG had gone the same way as Blockbuster and became simply a memory. Recently, they’ve become a household name, with a remarkable entry-level electric car. The MG ZS, a lovely SUV that covers 125 miles on a single charge. The best bit? It starts from £300 a month on our salary sacrifice scheme! Now they’re sporting the MG5 too!

Of Course, MG are just Evolving Old Ideas.

In 1985, Clive Sinclair, a boff who made the cheapest computer in 1980, made the rounds with his Sinclair C5. It was an electric vehicle that covered 20 miles if you went downhill, and had a scary performance. Scary as in it was about as high as a car tyre and virtually invisible to a bus or lorry!

However, back to my journey down memory lane to bad hair and neon shirts! When Phil Oakey released this masterpiece, little could he know that I would be listening to this in my EV 35 years later thinking about a blog! But here we are, I am living my electric dream and I want you to be too! We have time to dream, a lot of us are homebound right now anyway, though I may have popped to the office to grab the post once or twice.

So, Are you Going Electric by the End of 2022?

We’re noticing how clean the air is, how blue the sky is, and how much we’re saving on petrol! I can definitely speak for us all when I say, I do not miss filling up every week! Of course, I haven’t been for ages thanks to my I-PACE! Don’t worry though, you can get yourself an electric Jag through salary sacrifice as I did!

Amidst business downturns, electric cars are on a big up. They promise to preserve the blue hue in the sky whilst delivering you to your destination in an exhilarating way. No disturbance to that electro sound from a gruff engine! They protect your wallet as well as the planet and more and more come out every month, from the Skoda Citigo to the Porsche Taycan. If you don’t have electric dreams by now, you just might by the end of 2022!

Anyway back to my I-PACE, because we’ll always be together, however far it seems (with 32,000 charge points in the UK). Download our guide to electric cars!
