Save Money on an OLD DIESEL Car?!

Are you driving a 5-year-old diesel? Why not trade it in for a brand-new electric car? You’ll actually save money.

For many, motoring is the second biggest expense on the household budget. Few have a new car, and even fewer think they can afford an electric car, but how true is this? Well in this blog we’ll have a look…

Save Money with Mr Everyone

Meet Mr Everyone. Mr Everyone has a 5-year-old Golf GTD he brought last year, in which he does 200 miles a week with his wife and 2 kids. He knows he could never afford an electric car, not unless he sells a child (in all fairness he does have a spare) but is that the reality?

Mr Everyone’s (used) car cost him £15,000 (costs from Autotrader), in 5 years he’ll sell it for £5,400 (costs from Autotrader). That’s £9,600 lost in value, or £160 a month! On top of this, per month he’ll pay £10 tax, £10 recovery, £45 maintenance and tyres and £55 insurance. That’s £280 a month for the family motoring, assuming nothing ‘big’ goes wrong with the car.

Now here’s the strange part…

Mr Everyone counts every penny of his electricity and phone bills, but is completely unaware of this, why? Well, it could be one of two things. He has either purchased his car and forgot about the outlay or has it on hire purchase and forgets that his car loses value every month (probably quicker than he pays off the balance). It’s just the way it’s always been.

Luckily, Mr Everyone’s employer is not quite as stuck in their ways. They’re eager to attract and retain good people. A great way to do this is to offer green car salary sacrifice, giving their team huge savings on electric cars at no cost to them, just via a gross pay deduction.

Mr Everyone can afford a brand-new electric Golf for the same monthly cost as his current old diesel Golf!

But wait, there’s more…

Mr Everyone used to spend £100 a month on diesel; by charging off-peak it only cost him £2 for over 100 miles of range! Being Mr Everyone, he obviously shops at Tesco, where he can actually charge for free! Along with thousands of other free charge points in the UK. As well, he can drive through city centres with no fear of clean air charges! Also, he gets his pick of the best parking spots, right at the front of the car park!

Mr Everyone has realised that anyone can enjoy electric car motoring, as long as you have a drive, garage or charging at your workplace! Don’t have one at your workplace? Don’t worry, if 5 of your colleagues order electric cars we’ll give your workplace a charge point! Who can’t make the move to electric now? That’s right, no one.
