The Year of the Tiger: The Purrfect Time to Go Electric!

This Chinese New Year we celebrate two things; the remarkable contribution that China will make to our journey to the Electric Revolution over the next few years, and the Year of the Tiger! We wanted to take a look at some of the pawsome links between felines and electric cars, in the hope that while a leopard never changes its spots, a Tiger could change its stripes; from the black of polluting diesel to the green of electricity!

Joining the Cat Family

Our family moved fully into the Electric Revolution a few years ago with Jaguar. We’ve been an electric car household since 2011 when our first Nissan Leaf arrived! However, with one in our household (Moi) covering 40,000 miles a year, our other car was generally a plug-in hybrid. This was until the Jaguar i-PACE entered our lives. With 220 miles real-world range it lapped up the miles! At a cost of nearly £70,000, though… While it was the pride of my life, I’m well aware that without salary sacrifice this car would be unattainable to most, nevertheless driving it! Although it never roared, I definitely felt that the car had claws!

On A More Tenuous Note, New Product Is Becoming Much More Affordable.

In 2020, the Polestar arrives. Polestar is owned by Volvo, which is owned by Geely – a huge Chinese EV manufacturer; they’re bringing out the eagerly anticipated Zeekr 001, due end of this year. The Chinese are ahead of the curve on more affordable pure electric vehicles with the Ora-Cat; a competitor to the ID.3, which will deliver a family hatch with a genuine 200 miles for around £25,000.

For Anyone with A Drive or Garage, It’s A Grrreat Time to Go Electric!

If you don’t have a drive, garage, or reliable charging nearby, you can still cut your motoring costs! Just opt for a plug-in hybrid, you have loads of options, from a Jaguar F-Pace to a Ford Puma! You can even go for the Seat Leon as Leon is Spanish for Lion – you can’t say we don’t teach you anything here at Fleet Evolution!

The one thing this blog and the EV market is missing? Well, the Vauxhall Tigra, of course! After Ford reinvented the Puma, albeit unrecognisable from one I had in the ’90s, we think the Tigra would be amazing with electric power! The fastest land mammal may be a Cheetah, but the fastest affordable cars on our roads are all electric! With the year of the Tiger likely to be the biggest year yet for EV sales, we’ll continue to promote salary sacrifice to all! To make these so affordable you’ll struggle to justify keeping the diesel! Another cat-car coming to market is the Tata Tigor, a 5 seater with 120-mile range, potentially coming to the UK later this year. Speaking of tigers, they’re an endangered species, something diesel cars can relate to. #SavetheTigers #NotDieselCars
