Electric Encounters 2: Non-Drivers

Welcome to the second instalment of our Electric Encounters series! This week, we look at electric cars from the perspective of non-drivers! We recently teamed up with EY Foundation to offer work experience roles to young adults that need them.

EY Foundation is an independent charity that supports young people from low-income backgrounds to get paid work experience, employability skills, and career guidance.

They assigned 2-young adults to join us for a few days of work experience. We showed them the ropes in customer service with the Driverline team and even a bit of marketing. As non-drivers with presumably not a great interest in vehicles, we were interested in their opinions of electric cars. To our delight, they seem positive! Here’s what they had to say.

"Not Only Are Electric Cars Good For The Environment, But Us Too!"

“The idea of electric cars is brilliant as they’re efficient and practical; as the world progresses, I think they are a better and greener way to get around than traditional petrol and diesel cars. Not only are they good for the environment, but us too! I wouldn’t mind getting an electric car, I would highly consider it when I can drive.

Long-term, it would save me money – especially through salary sacrifice – and knowing I’m helping the environment pushes me to go electric even more! My favourite electric car is the Aspark Owl, an electric hypercar with an acceleration of 60mph in just 1.69 seconds.”

"EVs Are An Excellent Solution to Reduce Carbon Emissions"

“As a non-driver and electric car newbie, I like electric vehicles; the car industry is one of the highest producing sources of Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere, so I think EVs are an excellent solution to reduce carbon emissions. As a car enthusiast and an aspiring engineer, I like how simple and effective EVs have become compared to internal combustion engine cars. I am also obsessed with magnets, so the fact that electric vehicles utilise them makes me interested in them even more.

“I would personally go electric, but it would depend on the car’s functionality and affordability.”

I believe they will get cheaper and improve dramatically, sooner rather than later. They are already starting to overtake traditional cars in a short space of time! Now, imagine what they can achieve if more R&D was spent on them, just like ICE cars had time to improve for decades!

“My favourite electric cars are the concept car Lamborghini Terzo Millennio, the upcoming Tesla Roadster, and the Porsche Taycan Turbo S; however, this can change considering the fast-moving industry.”

Would You Go Back To Traditional Motoring?

Well, from what we’ve seen, electric cars seem to be a hit with the younger generations! Obviously, there are still concerns with price and range, and we want to put those rumours to bed!

We’d all love an electric hypercar, but maybe something a little more affordable would suffice? With salary sacrifice, electric cars are cheaper to run than your traditional petrol and diesel cars, especially with the cost of living crisis and increasing fuel prices lately. And the range? It’s constantly improving! But with over 30,000 charge points in the UK, and our free workplace charge point offering, there are plenty of chances to recharge!
