Hyundai Ioniq 6 vs Tesla Model 3
You’ve seen the Hyundai Ioniq 5, but are you ready for the Hyundai Ioniq 6? The latest release from the South Korean brand is on its way to the UK, with the First Edition arriving this month. This car is set to rival one of the most popular electric cars in the world, the Tesla Model 3. In this article we’ll run you through the basic need-to-knows of the Ioniq 6 and rack up whether it’s really a contender for the Tesla – let’s take a look!
The Basics: Price and Range
The Hyundai Ioniq 6 starts from £54,995, has a pure electric range of 275 miles, and a top speed of 115mph. Compared to the Tesla Model 3’s price tag starting from £48,490, a range of 235 miles, and a top speed of 140mph; it’s a bit of a price climb for an extra 40 miles and 25mph extra! But hey, we’ll do a more in-depth review of the Ioniq’s real-world range when we get our hands on one!
According to Twitter Man Elon, the Model 3 has a 0-60mph of just 3.1 seconds, but EV Database suggests the 0-62mph is more like 6.1 seconds. The Hyundai, however, has a 0-62mph of 5.1 seconds – in the same ballpark as the Tesla, that’s for sure!
Size and Storage
The Ioniq 6 is a good-sized car, not too big and not too small; it’s very similarly sized to the Tesla Model 3. The Hyundai comes in at 4855mm long, 1495mm high, and 1880mm wide. The Cargo volume is a nice 401L, with an extra 15L of frunk storage (front trunk). The roof can also handle an extra 80kg of weight on top of it.
Towing
Electric cars have had a rocky history with towing – to tow or not to tow? Well, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 sure can. According to EV Database, the Ioniq 6 has towing capabilities of up to 750kg with an unbraked trailer, and double that (1,500kg) for a braked trailer.
Vehicle-to-Grid Charging
Did you know that the Hyundai Ioniq 6 is also capable of vehicle-to-grid charging?
What is vehicle-to-grid charging? It’s simple really – once a car is a technology that allows energy to be pushed back to the grid from electric car batteries. It’s a revolutionary bit of tech, you can find out more about it here.
