Lockdown 2: Electric Boogaloo – What’s the Impact on the Automotive Industry?

As you may know, England is entering into a month-long lockdown to help to eradicate this virus. You may be wondering how this second lockdown will impact us all, and we’re wondering the same thing! Today though, we’re focussing on the market we’re in, which is obviously the automotive industry. Here’s the scoop:

Increased Lead Times and Possible Delays Importing Vehicles

Sadly, entering into another lockdown is yet again bad news for lead times. As car dealerships are classed as non-essential businesses, they will be closing over the lockdown. Factories also have the potential to close, meaning car production will cease. This means the wait may be longer for you to get your new automobile.

As this second lockdown seems more relaxed than the previous one, there may not be as harsh a delay on imported cars. However, there is still a pre-delivery inspection. This is the final check on a car, carried out by a dealer, before they hand it over to you. Pre-delivery inspections may take longer to carry out because, as stated, dealerships will be closed.

Car Deliveries Go Ahead

Contactless is the rage right now. Contactless payment, contactless meetings, and now contactless car deliveries. Dealers have new regulations in place to keep you and the employee safe. These measures can include deliverers wearing face masks and gloves and cleaning the car’s interior (steering wheel, gear stick, etc.) before passing it over to the customer.

A Focus on Cleaner Cars and Cleaner Air

Whilst we’re all stuck inside again, we imagine air quality will improve once more. As we enjoy the cleaner air, we’re here thinking: why can’t it always be like this? Well, it can be! Green cars are taking the world by storm! Not green like the colour green, but green as in environmentally friendly, no emissions, and not to mention, tax-free until 2021…

Want to Help the Environment and Make BIG Savings?

Our scheme offers just this! Get yourself a brand new, fully maintained electric car this year and pay NO company car tax! (Tax rising to 1% in 2021, 2% in 2022). As well, if you’re an employer looking to offer this great benefit to your team, we offer leaver protection! If your employee has a car and is made redundant, we take the car back, no hassle. However, if the employee chooses to leave, they have to either take the car with them or pay a fee for us to take it back. Either way, the employer has total leaver protection! – how the scheme works video

We hope this adds some clarity to what the impact on the automotive industry may be. We hope everything gets better in time for crimbo! Look out for some more festive blogs coming your way in the near future. If you want to know more about going electric, don’t be afraid to get in touch.
