Bristol Clean Air Zone

Finally, clean air zones are being put in place more widely across the country. The latest plan is to implement a clean air zone in Bristol. However, this one’s a little different to the rest.

Just like the London Clean Air Zone and Birmingham’s Congestion Zone, they’re dedicated to reducing emissions and improving the quality of air. The Bristol Clean Air Zone is also bringing a Diesel ban in the city centre. This makes Bristol the first city in the UK to ban diesel cars entering parts of the city (in attempts to cut air pollution). The ban restricts privately owned diesel cars from entering the area between the hours of 7:00 and 15:00. Besides taxis and emergency vehicles, diesel drivers risk a hefty fine if they enter the zone. However, privately-owned diesel cars will not be charged to enter the larger zone.

Taxis and vans planning on venturing into the zone will have to pay £9 per day. On the other hand, HGV’s will have to pay a much larger sum of around £100 per day! Best get switching to lower emission vehicles, like electrics! There are so many EVs out there and the list is only growing. The fine for entering the area is not yet clear, but we imagine it would cost a pretty penny! As well, categories of vehicles and persons exempt from the ban have also not been specified.
