Electric Cars Coming May 2023: The (Almost) SUV Edit?

Here it is, the long-awaited electric cars coming out in May UK blog – if we’re being honest it’s more like the SUV edit this month! Well, except the first car… Anyway, let’s get into the EVs coming in May.

First up on our list for electric cars coming out in May is from Volkswagen; they can’t get enough of their ID.3, can they? We’ve had so many variations over the years, but here are the new and improved versions, the Volkswagen ID.3 Pro and the Volkswagen ID.3 Pro S.

Volkswagen ID.3 Pro

Starting from £37,115, the Volkswagen ID.3 Pro has a 58kw battery, allowing 220 miles of real-world range – not bad if it lives up to it! Its top speed is 99mph and it has a 0-62mph of 7.3 seconds; a great runaround and daily commute car.

Volkswagen ID.3 Pro S

Next is the Volkswagen ID.3 Pro S, which has a 77kwh battery with 280 miles range. It has a slightly slower acceleration with a 0-62mph of 7.9 seconds, so milliseconds in it, really. This also has a top speed of 99mph.

Aiways U5

The next entry for May is the Aiways U5.

The Aiways U5 is a Chinese electric SUV which is expected to hit the UK market this month (according to Autocar, blame them if it’s wrong! hehe). It’s been around in Europe for a little over a year now, so we expect to see it on our roads soon enough! It’s said to rival the Volkswagen ID.4 and Skoda Enyaq, and with its similar price tag of £35,000 and 250 miles range, with a 0-62mph of 7.8 seconds. The Aiways U5 is also claimed to be one of the safest SUV’s to hit the UK market – but we shall see…

Mercedes EQS 450 and 580 4Matic

It feels like Mercedes are always bringing out new electric cars, we’re not complaining though! Let’s see what’s on offer from the EQS. Both models have a 108kwh battery offering 300 miles range, and a top speed of 130mph.

With a starting price of £129,170, the EQS 450 has a 0-62mph of 6 seconds with 355hp and 590lb-ft torque. However, the EQS 580 has a starting price of £139,170, a 0-62mph of 4.6 seconds, and 536hp and 633lb-ft torque. So the 580 is a little bit more powerful with a quicker acceleration.

Volvo C40 and XC40 Recharge Twin Motor

These 2 models have been available for a while but first deliveries are expected in May, at last! If you fancy one of these cars head over to our quote engine and have a look. The 2 cars are very similar, in every way really, but let’s have a look anyway.

The Volvo C40 Recharge Twin Motor is available from £53,605 and has a top speed of 112mph. It has a 79kwh battery, 250 miles range, and a top speed of 112mph.

The Volvo XC40 Recharge Twin Motor has a price tag of £51,755 and the same top speed of 112mph. It also has a 79kwh battery, but a 0-62mph of 4.8 seconds and 240 miles range.

Hmm, So What’s the Difference?

Well, they’re marginal really – the XC40 is slightly taller, has a slightly larger boot, slightly less front headroom, and slightly more rear headroom. Take a look for yourself here.

There are also Single Motor versions coming, but they’ll be arriving in September.

You might be thinking, “where’s the Lotus Eletre?”, and unfortunately, that has been moved to a July release. Don’t worry though, we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for any more changes. For now, you can head over to our quote engine to see what other great electric cars are available now!
