The Evolution of the Petrol Head! The Ford Mustang Electric…

The Ford Mustang Electric Car has finally been unveiled: the MACH-E. Ever since the ’60s, the Ford Mustang has been a design icon and an idol to petrol heads everywhere! It’s debatable whether its name was a tribute to the famous ‘Mustang’ WW2 fighter plane or a horse book read by Ford’s marketing director. But even the prototype lived up to both of these legends. It lapped a test track almost as quickly as Formula 1 cars of the same era!

Mustangs Sure Have Evolved Over Time

Initially light and agile, but grew in size and power in the early ’70s into an iconic ‘muscle’ car. Up to the introduction of a 5.0L engine in the ’80s, rising fuel prices soon led to a halt on the growing engine sizes. Although, 4L plus V8’s dominated the product range, even up to recent times. But, times are changing. With the slight blip of the Shelby (almost 6L!) the Mustang has seen the introduction of 2.3L Ecoboost engines. Sadly, it’s somewhat lost its way; that is, until now…

Petrolheads of the ’60s – ’80s Grew Old and Grey and Had a few Kids (I know only too well!)

Those kids too have a need for speed, but the sound of an exhaust tends to give almost a ‘shame’ effect to the new generation. Fun, yes. But at what cost to the environment? This morning, when overtaking a Focus ST in my I-PACE, I had an epiphany. It seems ludicrous for something to pollute so much, both in noise and chemicals, to be so, well… slow!

Fast forward to 2019 and we’ve just seen the introduction of a pure electric Ford Mustang.  I would argue that this is the natural evolution for the Mustang! It trots out with nearly 300 miles range and canters to 60 in around 3 seconds! As well, it goes for a similar price to the current V8, and that’s before the government grant!

This isn’t Just a Sign of the Times from a Climate Change Perspective…

It’s a growing realisation that electric cars are a major step up from petrol, whatever your needs. Whether you just want a cute Mini for your commute or even a Tesla X for long-range touring around Europe! The battle for minds is being won every day. With initiatives like our MythBusters campaign, which is now being taken on the road to our customers, the battle for hearts has just had a major new boost with reinforcements galloping to the front line!

The Ford Mustang Electric Car will be around £550/month on our Employee Car Scheme

Just add a plug to cover 1,000 miles for around £14 via a home charge point! As well, if 5 colleagues at your workplace take an EV through us, we’ll install a workplace charge point for free!

The iconic horse will still adorn the front, but what comes out of the back will be much closer aligned with nature than the previous incarnate. We think you’ll love it!
