Half of UK Homes Set to Apply for Green Energy Grant

Chancellor Rishi Sunak has announced a new Green Energy Grant in the July budget, which more than half of UK homes are aiming to apply for. This will be available in September and will pay for around two-thirds of energy-saving improvements to peoples’ homes. Sunak said that Britons could save anything up to £300 on their annual bills.

On average, a UK household could apply for a grant of up to £5000. Poorer households can apply for up to £10,000. The Government will cover all the costs of energy-efficient improvements.

The initiative is that the Government will give homes in the UK vouchers which will go towards the cost of improvements to the home. In some cases, the grant will cover all the costs of all of the renewable energy sources in households.

The Green Energy Grant will not only help aid homeowners in being greener…

It also promotes being more energy-efficient, whilst boosting the economy by creating jobs during the pandemic. Furthermore, the scheme will allow the Government to get closer to meeting its 2020 net-zero carbon emissions target.

Unfortunately, the Green Homes Grant only applies to households in England, so the grant will not cover homes in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The Treasury has said that it is hoping that the grant will be able to improve over 600,000 homes across England.

There are several ways in which people can make more energy-efficient choices throughout their homes with this grant. They can have loft, wall and floor insulation. They can also add double-glazing windows to keep heat inside. Take a look at our blog on the 10 best ways to be more green.

It appears anyone will be able to claim these vouchers

However, the speech’s details were not entirely clear on this. It is still up in the air whether every home will be able to qualify for the scheme.

According to a MoneySuperMarket survey, 51% of homes are planning on applying for the grant, with 26% considering the scheme too.

This is all part of a green recovery plan by the Government that will see £1 billion going towards the creation of more schools, hospitals and other buildings.

The application will be available from September to apply online. The Government has yet to say how long it will take for the requests of renewable energy improvements in the home to be approved and the voucher to be issued but be sure to keep up to date with the latest news and information, this a significant grant not to be missed!
