Our Guide for Cleaner, Greener Driving!

Are you looking for ways to do your bit to reduce CO2 emissions? In this article, we share a few tips you can use to reduce your carbon footprint via your vehicle and we’ll let you in on how you can drive more efficiently. Everyone is looking for ways they can help the planet and do their bit to reduce CO2 emissions. One of the most notable ways we can make a difference is simply by making adjustments to the way we travel. Here’s our guide to cleaner, greener driving!

Step 1: Get an Electric Vehicle

Easier said than done, or is it? If you’re serious about decreasing your carbon footprint you may want to consider upgrading to an electric vehicle. There are many ways you can do this. An honourable mention is via a salary sacrifice scheme, such as the ones we offer here at Fleet Evolution

Fully electric cars emit no CO2, NOx or particulate emissions through the exhaust system as they don’t burn fuel for power. Instead, they rely on electric as the power source. This means they’re by far the greenest and most eco-friendly kind of vehicle. Electric cars are also very cost-efficient to run and maintain. As well, if you get your car via salary sacrifice, much of the maintenance cost is often covered in your policy.

Step 2: Check your tyres

You probably already know that tyre tread depth and tyre pressure are vital factors in the safety of your car. Though, did you know that keeping your tyres well inflated and in good condition can also do wonders for your fuel economy? Whether you drive an electric, hybrid, petrol or diesel vehicle, how many miles you get from a full tank, or full charge, will be influenced by your tyres. Your car tyres, on average, lose 1 psi of pressure every month through regular use, according to Michelin.

Did you also know that a 20% under-inflated tyre will typically give 20% less economy?

Under or overinflated tyres can also reduce their lifespan. This means you’ll need to replace your tyres more often, which is both costly and bad for the environment. Set yourself a reminder to check your tyres once per month at the fuel station. You could even invest in a small home-use device to check and reinflate them.

Step 3: Drive sensibly

Driving in a steady, deliberate way can aid with your fuel-efficient and thus more eco-friendly. Even small adjustments to your driving style, such as changing gear earlier, keeping the revs low, and avoiding abrupt braking. These can all have a notable impact on your car’s carbon emissions. In fact, when driving an electric vehicle, all of these measures will help to obtain more miles per charge and therefore will help with the environmental impact of your car!

Hopefully, this short read has let you know how you can drive more efficiently, and help you in your steps to becoming clean and green!
