Where to Find Charging Stations: Electric Cars

There is a wide range of different locations in which an electric car charging station can be found. These locations can range from street corners to large shopping complexes. They can even be found on driveways of homes! Many EV charging stations are free and open to the general public to use. Though, how and where can you find these charging stations in the UK?

Apps

For example, Zap-Map, an app/website that shows you all the EV charging in the UK. It can be incredibly useful if you’re low on the road and need to find a charger ASAP. It’s a free app from the App Store and is rated number 23 in Navigation Apps globally. It is also the number one app for EV drivers in the UK too! This app will plan your route and show where available charging stations are when travelling long journeys. It’s also a forum for EV drivers to share updates on charge points they visit fellow EV drivers. It can identify 12,000 potential locations to charge your EV; you can’t far go wrong with this useful app.

In Contrast…

Apps like Google Maps have more limited listings of charging points. However, with Apple’s iOS14 update, charging stations have been integrated into Apple Maps! There are also many lists out there describing the most EV-friendly motorways and roads, so if you’re planning a trip it’s good to know where they are!

Back to Zap-Map, it can also help you find rapid charging units, which are also known as “fast charge points”. These charging points will provide the fastest way to charge an EV. They’re incredible, they could charge your EV to 80% of its total battery capacity in just under an hour! Fast charge points have been made available on popular travel routes, making them more accessible for EV drivers to use. Rapid charging points can cost around £6.60 for a 30-minute charge. Make sure you know how much you are paying to charge your EV!

On the contrary, public charge points at car parks or supermarkets are often free to use while you stay.

Service Stations Offer Rapid Charging Too…

This makes a great excuse to take a break from driving, charge your EV and have a bite to eat. Your EV will be charged to full capacity before you know it! And now, your concentration will be right back up for the rest of your journey!

Although you should never assume a location you are going to will offer EV charging. Take my dad’s advice and plan EVERYTHING. And have a backup plan. So, the moral is, planning is good. You should plan all of your routes, or at least the ones where you know you’ll have to recharge! You can simply use a suitable app which displays all charging networks across the country. That way, you can sit back, relax, and enjoy your journey. Forget the worries of running out of charge on your journey, you’re covered!
