Cardboard Car: Citroen Oli Concept
2022 is nearly over, another year has gone by already! The world of EVs is changing as we know it. Citroen is currently boasting a new concept which is the Citroen Oli; unique in looks to say the least! This car has a very boxy look, a futuristic interior, and an expected 250-mile range. With an estimated price tag of £22,000, that’s a good price-to-range ratio as EVs go!
With concept cars, you have to take any information with a pinch of salt as it will most likely change before it’s released. That being said, let’s get into it, introducing the Citroen Ami’s new brother, the Citroen Oli!
Design
The Citroen Oli will be a pure electric vehicle made from recyclable parts – talk about being sustainable! This seems to be a revolutionary concept, perhaps changing the future of EVs as we know it. As the car is made from cardboard and fibreglass, it’s expected to weigh just 1,000kg. Citroen clearly thinks the future is cardboard, and we’re on board to see where this goes!
Exterior
The boxy look of the car is definitely striking, but is this a good thing? Obviously, everyone has different tastes, but one thing is for sure, if you look up “futuristic” in a dictionary, this is what you see! Move over DeLorean!
The Citroen Oli is giving dune buggy vibes with a hint of Mars Rover. It’s safe to say that it definitely stands out from the rest of the EVs on the market right now! With a current expected release date of 2030, we’re glad to see cars differentiate from your typical electric cars!
Additionally, the Oli will have a 90-degree windshield and angled windows to deflect the sun, giving the car a much better temperature regulation. Some really cool features here, which will definitely give the Oli an edge over competitors! Whether that edge is based on features or just purely standing out from the crowd…
Interior
Reportedly, the car will have no infotainment system, making it lighter and cheaper. However, it does have a docking station for your phone instead; after all, it is 2022, who uses radio nowadays?
To save on space and weight, the door speakers and general surround sound is replaced with two (optional?) removable Bluetooth speakers placed on either side of the dash. It’s a bit of a strange design choice, but understandable for storage; you could always hold one in the front and place one on the back seats for optimal surround sound!
The bright red (orange?) interior may not be for everyone, although they are super lightweight, handy for low electric consumption and for that all-important range! You can find out all the specifics about the interior here.
Sounds good, right? Unfortunately, that 2030 expected release is ever looming – who knows, maybe we’ll have the Rivian by then too?
That’s a nice-7 year wait, a wait in which you could have had 2-brand new electric cars! A new car for less per month than you currently pay to run your 5-year-old diesel car, it’s a no-brainer if you ask me! Find out more about salary sacrifice here, or get the guide below!
