Electric Encounters 4: The Kia EV6

The Kia EV6 is a powerful electric SUV, but how does it cope on a country-wide journey? In this blog, that’s exactly what we’re testing. We’ll discuss some stats around the car, how it fared on the journey, and what driver Jordan thought about it too!

Let’s Talk Stats

Take a look at the stats below for Kia EV6 Models; the numbers are taken from EV Database, which shows the real-world range as opposed to the advertised range, which we all know manufacturers sometimes tell porkies about

  • Kia EV6 Long Range 2WD – 255 miles range, top speed 115mph, 0-62mph in 7.3 seconds, prices start from £44.195.
  • Kia EV6 Long Range AWD – 250 miles range, top speed 115mph, 0-62mph in 5.2 seconds, prices start from £50,695.
  • Kia EV6 GT (coming soon) – 230 miles range, top speed 162 mph, 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds, prices start from £61,595.

Rivals?

Well, the obvious competitor to the EV6 is the Tesla Model 3, which you can find out more about by clicking here. The EV6 has also been connected with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Genesis GV60.

Jordan’s Experience

The EV6 was great, I had no range anxiety at all! We had 300 miles on a full charge and it had rapid charging capabilities, which saved us a lot of time! One downside was how big it was compared to my ID.3, and we had to park it in a small garage at the customer site, which was a worry as we were unsure if it would fit. However, the customer loved it to say the least!

I drove around 17 hours in 2 days and it was a pleasure to drive; super comfortable, tonnes of leg room, and had 5 USB ports to charge things, including an actual plug socket in the back! I thought it was a bit strange, but maybe it’s useful for someone! The technology was great too and it was super simple to use.

Charging Costs and Petrol Comparison

Overall, we did 699 miles in 2 days, which is a lot! The total charging expenses on rapid chargers was £61.26; now compare that to a petrol vehicle with 55mpg at 178p per litre, a grand total of £102.84! We made a huge saving there! This really is a prime example as to why you should drive EV; think about making this saving across a week, to a month, to a yea. The amount of money in which you’d save would be thousands!

Conclusions

So, our final thoughts? The EV6 is great, performs well on miles and drives like a champ. Even better for our MD Andy, it gives Tesla a run for its money!
