Germs When Filling Up: The Convenience of Electric Cars

You’ve probably already been thinking about how dirty petrol station pumps are, especially the newer pay-at-pump ones. But did you know that petrol pumps are reportedly 11,000 times dirtier than a TOILET SEAT? Let’s take a look at the germs we encounter when filling up and how you can avoid these germs.

The Actual Germs

Do you know how many people use just one pump each week? Now everyone is back at work (well, who knows anymore) they’re probably being used more often. So many other people have used the pump you’ll be using, and who knows what they’ve touched! They might already be ill and just spread their germs around.

Well, you have to get fuel. There’s not really anything you can do about it. So, now you’ve filled up, what happens to the germs? Well, they don’t just disappear! When you close the fuel cap, you get germs all over it; when you go to get back into your car, germs all over the door handle! Once you’re in the car, the steering wheel, the gear stick, the seatbelt, basically everything in your car is now contaminated.

I bet you don’t clean the insides and outsides of your car after every use, of course, you don’t, who does!? Then, after the drive home with the tunes blasting, you’ve forgotten all about the germs. That’s if you ever thought about them to begin with. You get in, pop the kettle on, maybe have some biscuits… but, what’s this? You didn’t wash your hands? Uh oh.

The Inconvenience of it All

The whole idea of a fuel station simply bores me. It’s way too inconvenient. You have to lug your car running on fumes all the way to one, which probably won’t be too far away, but who can be bothered? Then you have to get out in the cold, wet, dark afternoon, and finally, worst of all, touch a biohazardous petrol pump. Gross.

Of course, you can use gloves at the petrol station or bring a hand sanitiser with you. To be honest, though, I forget to bring a hand sanitiser with me now, I’m so used to it being everywhere! That’s a good question, why isn’t it at pay-at-pump petrol stations?

The Convenience of Electric Vehicles

Now let’s get to the real thick of it: electric cars. They take away the hassle in just about all aspects of driving. This means you have your own personal filling station! You don’t have to drive anywhere to refuel, you just go home and pop it on charge. Since only your household uses it, it seems a lot less grim when you plug it in. However, you should still wash your hands afterwards. Luckily, as you’re at home, you don’t have the remainder of the journey to forget about washing your hands, you can just walk right over to the sink.

More convenience of electric cars, it’s much cheaper to recharge! Think about it like this, with a traditional car, you’ll be filling up about once a week at around £40 a pop. Now, with an electric car, you can put it on charge when you get home and leave it to fill up overnight! It’s only 8p per k/w when charging overnight, and it’s factored into your monthly bills.

We love bragging about electric cars and now you can too! It’s simple, just follow these steps:

  1. Get on the scheme – get the scheme put in place, it’s free! Talk to your employer or HR, I’m sure they’ll love the idea of bulking their benefits package!
  2. Order your brand new, fully maintained electric car!
  3. Start saving money on tax and NI, your fuel spend will decrease drastically too!
  4. Start saving our air quality and start saving the environment we and our animal friends live in!
